A mostly accurate depiction submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 16, 2013, 9:14pm This portrayal of the Borgia family in the Vatican is intriguing in its depictions of the Borgias' exploits and corruption, and is remarkably accurate. Pope Alexander VI did indeed have numerous mistresses (the show only depicts two) and several acknowledged children (the show only depicts four), for example.

The series is very violent, including depictions of murder, rape, and torture. Of course, these are historically accurate as well, but very disturbing.

On this disc, we see the French king's mostly successful invasion of Italy using the newly invented double cannon-ball, which tore through soldiers like a scythe and caused more bloodshed in battle than ever before. Again, the depiction is historically accurate but (rightfully) quite disturbing.

Viewers should note that in the show, the baby Borgia is the son of Lucrezia and her lover, a groom. Historians do not really know who the baby's parents were, in part because the Pope issued various bulls changing the official story. This led to rumors about incest among the Borgias, although such rumors were common about European royal families of the time period.
