Mudwoman submitted by leighsprauer on August 11, 2015, 11:50am I think this is probably a book other people would enjoy - it's well-written, and somewhat of a 'page-turner' - but I found that I didn't enjoy Oates' writing style, among other things. The book follows the first year of M.R. Neukirchen's college presidency, including many flashbacks, as she comes to terms with her tragic past. At times I enjoyed the story, but was distracted by the fragmented sentences, and found that I just didn't care much for the main character. (This was partly due to a side-plot dealing with her political leanings, which I didn't think added much to the story.) If you like other Oates' books (I've read at least one before, but I don't remember whether I liked it or not, which is how I ended up with this one), maybe you'll like this book. I didn't.
