good submitted by fatismata on August 11, 2012, 4:01pm good and exciting

A different beast submitted by pkooger on September 7, 2012, 2:11pm For those of you who have read the original H. G. Wells story, "The Island of Dr. Moreau", this film adaptation might not live up to your expectations. Or it may exceed them, what do I know? The film changes the island's population to an all-male group, while at the same time adding two main female characters. This has the effect of losing the colonial allegory present in the original story and replacing it with a sort of sexual panic narrative. Basically the natives revolt against their established ruler because he has women in his compound and they want them. To me this is a weaker tale. Also, this was made in the 1930s, so don't expect insanely good special effects.

Ok, but dated. submitted by purchasingqueen on July 19, 2019, 4:18pm This adaptation of the H. G. Wells original "The Island of Dr. Moreau" is dated with, as per the times, very basic special effects. OK, if you don't want you pants scared off as with current horror genre films.
