COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Awesome Electronic Sampling submitted by Meginator on July 6, 2020, 6:14pm This album absolutely blew me away and I am so glad that I discovered it. DJ Shadow uses extensive sampling to build a rich group of tracks that draw on a surprising range of musical influences, from hip-hop to jazz, funk, and hard rock. The result is a blend of genres that retains its own unique musical signature, feeling all of a piece even as it pushes at boundaries. The main vibe is largely tied to mid-1990s hip-hop, but the individual elements that go into creating that sound illustrate music’s ability to reach beyond borders and challenge expectations, all while remaining pleasant to listen to. DJ Shadow has an outstanding ear for composition and this album ages quite gracefully, holding tons of surprises and hidden nuances that continue to delight decades after its creation.
