Great, but start with Santa Olivia first
submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on August 24, 2013, 2:00pm
I heard in an NPR interview once, "A story is when something happens, and therefore something changes."
The roughest part of this book is that the whole first half is the "what happens after the 'something changes' that is the last book." It's the "what next" from the last book, and I think it's fascinating. What would two young women raised in Outpost and then turned loose in the world do, think, be? But it's not actually much of a STORY.
That changes half way through, and though I felt that Pilar's astonishing sharpshooting skills were contrived, her research skills feel natural and are just great.
I love the challenges, changes, strategies and activism of the second half.
And the girls' love story is wonderful. Sometimes very seventeen-year-old... but it so thoroughly fits who they are that I didn't mind.
Highly recommended, but start with Santa Olivia first.
