Slow Moving Cozy British Mystery submitted by sdunav on June 26, 2016, 3:38pm The premise of this first book in a cozy mystery series had a lot of promise - ex-MI-5 man turned Anglican vicar has to solve the murder of a unlikable woman in his parish.

The plot moved so slowly that I kept losing interest and finally skimmed the last third of the book to find out who the murderer was. The descriptions struck me as a little over the top, and the little patterns of maple leaves (to represent fall) on the pages at the beginning of each chapter struck me as weird since maple is not common in the UK, and the leaves look exactly like silver maple and NOT the one species there in England. Also, Malliet mentions the monarch butterflies migrating, and sorry...no monarchs (except a few blown off course) there, either.

These little inaccuracies wouldn't have bothered me if I had really been pulled into the story - but that never happened.
