Interesting Photographic History
submitted by Meginator on July 25, 2022, 10:26pm
Content Note: This book includes a handful of photographs of dead bodies.
This photographic history of Detroit’s organized crime syndicates (confined mostly to the local Mafia and the famous Purple Gang) is a little difficult to follow but puts a (literal) face to history. Organized chronologically and comprised primarily of mugshots and related captions, the book drops a lot of names but fails somewhat to provide a cohesive story although connections do emerge over time. The book feels fairly comprehensive and covers a lengthy time period, allowing readers to get a feeling for the subject and providing some tantalizing hints at stories that can be discovered with further reading.
