"A Tom Doherty Associates book."
Jack Holloway, prospecting on Zara XXIII for ZaraCorp, finds an immensely valuable stream of sunstone. But when he forwards footage of the planet's catlike, native "fuzzies" to a biologist friend --who believes the "fuzzies" are sentient--hired company thugs, murder, and arson soon follow to protect ZaraCorp's mining interests.

It was ok. submitted by aklute on May 29, 2014, 10:31am This book was amusing and the central idea was interesting: what would happen if we found a sentient race that couldn't speak to us at all. The writing was pretty predictable and the characters weren't terribly interesting. It's a short read though, so I personally would recommend it for a fun, quick read.
Light but fun

This sounds like it ought to be awful science fiction... cute fuzzy cat-like things that need protection from the big bad corporation. Cue green activists!
It was definitely a light read (perfect for traveling), but Scalzi is a master at intricate characters with depth that you do not expect. Nicely done.
