He enlists the help of Sally, a possible eyewitness to the crime who may be in danger herself, to uncover the truth. With its jolting stylistic flourishes, intricate plot, profoundly felt characterizations, and gritty evocation of early-1980s Philadelphia, this is an American paranoia thriller unlike any other, as well as a devilish reflection on the act of moviemaking.

The post-Watergate thriller goes (indie) pop submitted by oriolbt on June 30, 2023, 4:46pm Such a fun, grimy, bleak lil post-watergate thriller! Travolta is great without qualification, even if Nancy Allen is slightly less credible. Some of the supporting actors could sell it a little bit harder, and the chase scene in the third act also feels a bit left-field, though it does give De Palma the chance to show off some expensive camerawork. Love the location scouting, score, costumes. Hugely appreciate the film's commitment to depicting the ins and outs of sound work/editing. Protagonist Jack Terry is a Sound Guy, but he is also a "sound guy", you feel me?
