Caught Between Two Minds submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:28pm This album feels like it is caught between two minds: a first half heavy on electro-inspired pop gives way to an almost melancholy back end, leaving the later tracks to trail off in the wake of the more energetic opening. The overall sound is more sophisticated than on the group's previous album, with cleaner instrumentation and a clearer focus on songwriting over production tricks, but the tracks have so much differentiation that it's difficult to assemble them into a satisfying whole. I'm also not a fan of the vocal style, which seems to me to lack conviction. The music isn't bad, but in the end I can't help but feel like Death Cab for Cutie did the same things, but better.
