The runner-up in the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll, James Blake incorporates a vast array of influences into the electronic dubstep style that defines his debut album. A couple of his influences are D'Angelo and Stevie Wonder, which gives his music unexpected but welcome soul.
"8 out of 10...an album that invites its close listeners to fall in."--PopMatters.
"James Blake is poised to flip the electronic world on its head in 2011."--NPR Music.
"He's focused in his sound and wants you to feel a mixture of serenity and total loneliness..."--New York Times.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Not my cup of tea, musically... submitted by tbbrown76 on July 13, 2014, 11:48am and the grammar is not so good. But you might like it.

Laid Back with Falsetto submitted by Meginator on June 28, 2018, 7:50pm This lo-fi album features a lot of Blake’s falsetto over glitchy R&B electro beats, lending it a chill vibe. Blake’s singer-songwriter instincts are clear, but the music he chooses doesn't always seem to be the best vehicle for them; there’s a bit of a disconnect and the album just didn't do it for me.
