Four years into World War II, the quiet English village of Market Wetherby is in for a shock. They are not being invaded by the Germans, but the American servicemen at the new U.S. airbase are arriving. These newcomers are an entirely different breed altogether. But, for local doctor Helen Dereham and base commander Major James Kylie, they strike up a distinctly warm relationship. In a small place like Market Wetherby, few are left untouched.

WWII Americans from a British point of view submitted by GJBarnett2 on August 25, 2011, 3:28pm Interesting to see how the Brits recalled stereotyping us, almost 40 years after the War, as brash, loud, rude but essentially good-hearted. Harsher on themselves than on us, the most unsympathetic character is a loud bullying prig of an anti-American bigot.
