Read by Nick Podehl.
An escalating rivalry with a powerful member of the nobility forces Kvothe to leave the University and seek his fortune abroad. Adrift, penniless, and alone, he travels to Vintas, where he quickly becomes entangled in its politics. While attempting to curry favor with a powerful noble, Kvothe uncovers an assassination attempt, comes into conflict with a rival arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries into the wild in an attempt to discover who is killing travelers on the King's Road.

great story telling submitted by msasena on August 24, 2011, 6:59pm If you are like me, and you enjoyed the first book in the series "The Name of the Wind", then there's more to love here. Patrick Rothfuss once again shows his skills as a wonderful teller of stories. The characters are well fleshed out and multidimensional. The stories are told with loving detail. And the mysteries continue to draw the reader in. If I have anything negative to say about this book, it's the following. I was expecting what I would consider to be the key plot points (i.e., Kvothe's search for the Chandrian) to progress further than it actually did. While Kvothe himself continued to develop as a person and goes through many formative adventures, the search for the Chandrian makes very little substantive progress, in my opinion. This doesn't make it a bad story. It just left me wanting for more. And I suspect waiting for the next novel's going to be a difficult task!

asking submitted by nicenora2371 on July 12, 2013, 5:38pm what is this story manly about i bought it but did not have enough time to read the book

not as good submitted by unknown on August 2, 2013, 9:54pm I just finished the book this morning. Without giving anything anyway that wasn't mentioned in the item description/amazon review, I'll say that the pages devoted to Kvothe's dealings with Felurian and the Adem consume too much of the book. Altogether, there is much of waiting and wishing for things to happen throughout the story; not enough happens to need over 1,000 pages. I feel this book needs distilled down to around half the size. I have read the likes of George RR Martin, Robin Hobb, Tolkien, and Scott Lynch. The Name of the Wind is one of my all time favorites. My reading it four times through still left me wanting to read it again. After my first read of Wise Man's Fear, I am left wanting.
My fear is that Book 3 will not regain the magic of the first.

Wise Man's Fear submitted by SBNB on August 5, 2018, 3:30pm This is a great book, and I don't think it needs any condensing. Yes, I was eager to know how things would resolve, but I didn't skip to the end like I usually do. (I'm the kind of person that likes spoilers, reads the ends of books first, and reads the movie plots on Wikipedia while watching the movie). I didn't feel the need here. The story was engrossing and I loved losing myself in the worlds created by Rothfuss.

Expansion of the world submitted by vvergoth on July 20, 2022, 4:18pm I'm committed to this series, and will just keep relistening until the next book comes out.
