Two intertwined memoirs; excellent submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 16, 2022, 10:29pm 4.5/5 stars. Just wow. Tayari Jones is definitely becoming a favorite author for her unexpected but compelling books. Silver Sparrow is more like two back-to-back memoirs that wind together. Each one kept me riveted, and together I couldn’t look away. The characters (especially the father, to be honest) are far more human and flawed than I expected of a story with this setup, but in the end that’s part of what kept me locked in. 4.5/5 stars, losing half a star because in the second daughter’s story, I sometimes had a hard time with a new first-person perspective that was someone else (same gender, same age, same characters, just a new narrator), and it was hard to keep in mind that this was someone else telling the story from a different perspective.
