COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Hollow submitted by jaegerla on February 14, 2011, 12:40pm I rented this mostly hoping to see shots of Ypsilanti in a movie. There were a few recognizable locations, such as the bar scene in the Tap Room, but not many. All in all this reminded me a lot of Gran Torino. It felt hollow, like something was missing. My theory on where the empty feeling comes from is due to non-Michiganders' lack of awareness on where to go for good locations, or how to properly utilize good locations. There was something wrong with both of those movies, at least to me. If people out there enjoyed either one more power to you, but I did not.

This was also much more metaphysical than I had assumed it would be. The idea that the voice of god speaks to people through silences and small sounds goes far in explaining how quiet the movie is. But the spiritual ideas of the film don't mix well with the plot. I didn't enjoy this at all, but wouldn't necessarily discourage others from checking it out.

Intriguing submitted by markwells on April 1, 2011, 8:39am I thought "Stone" was a weird, far-from-formulaic movie. Its religious overtones gave it an edginess that kept me interested. The performances gave life to these intriguing characters and that is what propelled this story along. I thought it was surprisingly good for a movie that got virtually no publicity.
