Cheap Laughs! submitted by jaegerla on January 24, 2011, 10:19am It was shocking how high quality this film turned out to be. I had extremely low expectations for Piranha. I pictured it somewhere along the lines of Coolio's Pterodactyl ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452668/ ). But the opening scene had two things going for it to draw me in: Richard Dreyfus getting eaten alive by piranhas and great underwater footage. Of course, the entire movie was completely sleazy and had as much nudity as was humanly possible, but if you aren't bothered by that kind of thing this was actually pretty funny. The movie knew it was rubbish and took it to the max. This is good for some cheap laughs.

Campy fun submitted by Annimatronic on June 20, 2011, 4:49pm This movie was far better than I thought it would be. You want gore, nudity, sleazy characters getting what's coming to them? It's all there.
I'm not a big fan of CGI, and unfortunately, this movie relies on it for its effects. But as long as the shot is not too close, it can be effective. At times, it really lets the movie reach new highs (or lows--depending on how you look at it) in gore.

meh submitted by Adam Graham on August 10, 2018, 9:50pm The special effects are really good - but it is dragged down by unnecessary nudity and poor plot.
