After a car accident, modern-day police detective Sam Tyler wakes up to find he has been transported to 1973. Is he crazy, in a coma, or back in time? He must solve crimes using low-tech, highly aggressive 1970s methods, butt heads with his boss, and find time for a possible romance with policewoman Annie.

Is there Life on Mars? submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on June 14, 2014, 1:27pm Detective Sam Tyler was hit by a car in 2006 and woke up in 1973. He now works in the local police department solving murders.
The show really demonstrates many of the huge changes, socially and technologically (not the mention the clothes and hair!) in the 40 years since then. A look at his office shows only white male detective. No one has a computer on their desk: just a telephone and typewriter. Searching for clues in old documents means literally rooting through thousands of pages of print. The show reminds us of essential and pervasive computers and mobile phones are today.
