Amazing Modern Jazz submitted by Meginator on June 22, 2019, 9:58am This album is absolutely fantastic, representing smooth modern jazz at its very finest. Each of the featured instrumentalists that accompany Spalding adds something to the overall combo, both in the background and in featured solos, and each song has a warm, inviting vibe. Spalding stands apart from a lot of other jazz artists by incorporating influences from African and Brazilian music, doing so in a way that highlights the natural affinities between traditional American jazz standards and these musical cultures. This album blew me away and I highly recommend it to jazz fans who haven’t yet experienced Spalding’s music and to anyone who is curious about the genre, as it is very accessible to newcomers.
