Fantastic submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on August 25, 2013, 11:11am Brent Weeks is a master of creating new universes and telling both the big and the small stories within them. By juxtaposing the realities of both the most powerful person in the world and one who is (starts out to be, at least) completely insignificant, he gives us a thorough overview of society. There is a lot going on, both at individual and at societal levels. Characters have decisions to make, and their choices are both realistic and fascinating. Mid-story there is a revelation that made me completely question my loyalties.

My only short term complaint is that it is clearly the first book in a series, and leaves off with *nothing* resolved.

This is a story that will do nothing but improve on re-read, as information learned later will clearly enrich and shed light on the early story. If I didn't have so many good books waiting for me, I'd have gone from page 763 right back to page 1.

My new favorite author submitted by missdehlia on August 4, 2017, 1:47pm This book is absolutely amazing and I recommend it to all my friends. I have been reading fantasy for a very long time and almost no books surprise me anymore. This entire series however leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat and gasping in shock. Brent Weeks is my new favorite author and I will read anything he writes!
