American Beauty submitted by jibkidder on July 25, 2022, 5:50pm This landmark American drama is certainly made awkward by Kevin Spacey's cancelation, and as far as ripping Suburban life to shreds has been outdone by Haneke. I feel like this work's real place is as a harbinger for what prestige TV would become because I think if it were being made in this day and age it would be an AMC TV show. I think also a lot of great American Studies essays could be written about it with a critical eye - what does it and what does it not get right about American Life in 1999, and what implications do both the reality and fiction of that moment have on 2022?
