Definitely not a book for kids, but I'm not sure it's for adults either submitted by dimuziom on June 15, 2013, 9:56pm This was a mildly entertaining read, but as a picture book it's very straightforward and un-subtle. The story is somewhat lengthened by the multiple endings, but despite the somewhat twisted nature of these, there's nothing really inspiring for adults or even teens to learn here. The nature of the story, and the inclusion of some gore, make it unsuitable for children...but I'm not sure that it really appeals to adults either. I like Rothfuss' fantasy books, and I have no problem with him doing this side project as a way to recharge between longer projects, I just didn't get much enjoyment out of it. The illustrations were excellent, and fit the blend of cutesy, goofy, and grotesque that the story hinges on, so that much was well done.

well submitted by unknown on August 2, 2013, 10:00pm Patrick Rothfuss has conjured a delightfully twisted story with the shell of children's book, the spirit of a fairy tale, and ending options that range from Disney to Sweeney Todd. The dark side of Darth Vader's personality would enjoy reading it as much as his light side, thanks to the adorable wholesomeness of Nathan Taylor's illustrations. Pat's sick wit and Nate's slick pics combine to create a contemporary Grimm's Fairy Tale. I recommend buying a copy for yourself and your friends before a real villain spoils this treat for you.

It's fun submitted by severian on July 23, 2021, 1:53pm Basically, if you've come to the end of Rothfuss's other books and are left wanting more immediately, this is for you! It's fun and short, and you can read it in about fifteen or twenty minutes. Treat yourself!
