Lovely illustrations, classic story submitted by alotofaxolotl on August 22, 2019, 8:27pm I have read this book many times to both of my daughters, each time enjoying the lovely illustrations. Thumbelina is not the most feminist of main characters: she is rescued by others through most of the story. However, she does make a decision not to compromise what she loves (sunlight and flowers) for the security of marriage to a boring mole. There are interesting discussions to be had about the various characters' motivations and the value of kindness (it is after all, Thumbelina's kindness that revived the sparrow left for dead by others).
