Humbert Humbert attempts to justify his love for and obsession with the barely adolescent Dolores Haze, known as Lolita. Humbert's cross-country flight with his adored nymphet ends with her betrayal of him with his rival, the evil Quilty, who pursues Lolita not out of love but out of lust and selfishness, and who functions as a kind of double for the more pure-hearted (if perverse) Humbert.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

must-read submitted by jgzhang on July 16, 2012, 1:50pm A really twisted "love" story, but Nabokov's writing is beautiful. The clever way he uses his (and Humbert's) writing to manipulate and charm is really brilliant.

Not impressed submitted by Isabella Giviyan on July 18, 2015, 2:12pm The author's language reminds me very much that of Steinbeck. He attempts to be poetic, but only succeeds in confusing his audience. The plot is base and plain. Overall, it is not impressive.
