Awesome submitted by mysterio on July 28, 2011, 1:26pm Awesome

Good but not great submitted by Will O on August 29, 2020, 3:06pm I liked 3/4 of this movie.
The Robert's, Redford and Duvall are excellent naturally, even if one of them is 47 playing a 35 year old and the other criminally underused.
I liked how it started and did not see the hotel scene coming but it started to lag in the middle and was maybe 20 minutes too long overall. They tried to make it overly dramatic with the off field stuff and I would have rather it been more focused on the Glenn Close and her son relationship than the Kim Basinger/bookie side storyline. One side story would have been enough to break up the actual games but it got bogged down and boring with too many sub-plots.
One thing done really well is that it showed how superstitious baseball players are and how that effects their game, when the camera pans to show all the lighting bolt patches the team had after Redford's previous brilliant game performance it struck me as something that has probably happened before.
Would like to see a tighter version of this but as it stands it was not terrible but not great.
