The Magnetic Fields submitted by xiwang on July 30, 2013, 1:11pm Good, hard rock by the Magnetic Fields.
Rustic Indie submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:58pm This album has a rustic feel to it that adds some depth to its indie pop base and allows for several surprises along the way, including a few tracks that evoke the late Beach Boys (likely due to the group’s use of a certain type of bright bell). The lyrics, too, are steeped in nostalgia, which adds to the folky vibe. Though the band definitely has a unique sound, I found the frequent juxtaposition of growling male vocals over bright backgrounds to be occasionally unsettling, and overall I felt that the album didn’t do enough to fully explore its core ideas. After a while, the aspects of it that were initially interesting became mundane, and I kept waiting for something new to pop out against the background. Still, the album does offer something different and I’m sure it would hold a lot of appeal for the right listener.
