Based upon "Star trek" created by Gene Roddenberry.
John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana, Leonard Nimoy.
On the day of James Kirk's birth, his father dies on his ship in a last stand against a mysterious alien vessel. He was searching for Ambassador Spock, who is a child on Vulcan, disdained by his neighbors for his half-human nature. Twenty years later, Kirk has grown into a young troublemaker. He is inspired by Capt. Christopher Pike to fulfill his potential in Starfleet, even though he annoys his instructors. Suddenly, there is an emergency on Vulcan when the Romulan Nero comes from the future to take revenge on the Federation. The newly commissioned USS Enterprise is crewed with promising cadets like Uhura, Sulu, Chekov and even Kirk himself thanks to Leonard McCoy's medical trickery. Together, this crew will travel to the final frontier where the old legend is altered forever.
DVD, widescreen; Dolby Digital.

good submitted by steelersfan1 on June 23, 2011, 9:27pm good movie

Like more then originals submitted by drewy234432 on July 9, 2011, 7:09pm I watch this movie before any other star trek and now i think they all stink so make sure you start with the originals first.

Star Trek Fan submitted by DBJC on August 25, 2011, 9:42am As a Star Trek fan, I was excited to see the new Star Trek movie. I watched it in theaters and didn't think it was that bad. The actors did a great job, and the music was awesome. It's also a good movie to introduce a new generation to the original series, or those who have never bothered to look at the original series whatsoever. Of course it's more flashy and appeals to the younger generation, but it's still good. I really like this movie and I watch it all the time.

Good submitted by Roylo56 on August 26, 2011, 8:25pm This was a good entertaining movie that keeps u on the edge of ur seat.

Better than I thought submitted by ValerieL on July 3, 2012, 12:19am I originally watched this movie simply because I'm a fan of Chris Pine and enjoy watching him act. I was not planning on really liking the movie because I often find that movies that are a new spin on an old TV show/movie/etc. are disappointing. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. There was plenty of action and sci-fi jargon, but there was also a decent amount of character development and a believable storyline, for the most part. Definitely worth seeing if you're a Star Trek fan.

remake submitted by ftan on July 16, 2012, 3:51pm i prefer this remake of the original hit movie(s) because it has better quality. for those of you who enjoyed avatar, zoe saldana is in this film. it is a decent movie that won't waste your time.

A new generation submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 28, 2013, 12:06am I'm sure I am committing science fiction heresy by saying this, but I liked this latest "Star Trek" movie far better than the original 1960s series on which it was based. This movie is far less sexist (although not completely free of it) and the actors of color have far bigger roles than in the series starring William Shatner. As this movie does not star William Shatner, the quality of acting in also infinitely better.
This movie does have Leonard Nimoy, as the older Spock who travels back in time to save the universe. There are many significant departures from the 1960s series, such as Capt Kirk being born in space instead of Iowa, but the intriguing plot line more than makes up for it. The director has announced that this and the 2013 movie are set in a different time line than the original series, which explains the changes in details.

Liked by a non-Trekkie submitted by crazypockets on August 2, 2013, 7:34pm I'm not a Star Trek fan exactly, though I've seen the odd episode here or there and seen a couple of the movies. But I went to see this in the theater because it was "the new movie," and I was intrigued by the cast and the director. I wound up really enjoying it, and I think I now get some of the appeal of the show where before I didn't. I don't think I'd get into watching the show exactly now because it just seems way too overwhelming, but I'll definitely go see any movies that come out in the future. (*ducks from whatever real Trekkies are figuratively throwing at me right now*)

Good Movie submitted by xiwang on August 3, 2013, 4:44pm A great Star Trek film.

Great job of renewing the franchise submitted by hathaway1066 on August 3, 2013, 8:47pm Didn't feel like it was too caught up in a check list of required Trek memes and the actors did a great job of portraying younger versions of the characters from the original series while still giving their own, interesting versions of those characters. And the story was action packed, etc. so very edge of the seat viewing to carry over any minor glitches.

And then there's the great homage as the credits roll. Gotta say, it brought tears to my eyes.

Lens flares submitted by beeniepie on August 11, 2013, 12:29pm Fun movie! The cast did a wonderful job honoring the characters they were rebooting while making them their own. And the lens flares...a character all itself.

Special effects and good acting submitted by tbbrown76 on June 18, 2014, 8:12pm Nice story line and true to the Star Trek universe. It's all good.

star trek 2009 submitted by a2sue on June 29, 2014, 9:12am star trek 2009 is just as bad all all of the others in the franchise.

Star Trek submitted by SBNB on July 5, 2014, 2:09pm This was a lot better than I expected it to be. I especially liked Spock.

SO I took the advice of the very 1st review on here... submitted by crankycrack on June 20, 2015, 12:09am After watching Star Trek (2009) the first time I decided it was simply OK (in agreement with the reviewer) but I was not satisfied with OK so I decided (in accordance of the first reviewer's advice to watch the film a thousand times to make it better than OK) to watch the movie a thousand times. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is better than it's sequel and superior to all other Star Trek movies ever made!!! Yeah that's right Star Trek: Insurrection I said that it was even better than you! So take that! Enjoy this movie. After watching it a thousand times I realized it was just as good as the first time I viewed it but I had finally allowed myself to judge for what it was and not bag it down with the expectations of the "STAR TREK" franchise. I love this movie!

Amazing film submitted by ishhewitt on July 14, 2016, 6:17pm I love these Star Trek remakes. They have been well acted and well made. Granted, as you must do for past Star Trek films/series, so must you also do here and suspend your understanding of laws of physics/accurate science.

Great submitted by rgaller on July 23, 2016, 4:30pm One of my favorite Star Trek movies. I really like most of the updated characters. Some even more than the originals.

Refreshing submitted by toschag on August 2, 2016, 11:05pm When it came out it was by far the best sci-fi movie in years. JJ does it again!

One of my Favorites! submitted by ajstemp on June 27, 2018, 2:16pm Genuinely one of my favorite movies. The characters are easy to root for, the plot is fun, and the music is fantastic. (I bought the soundtrack not long after seeing this for the first time.) Whether or not you enjoyed the original series, this is worth watching!

Good submitted by Kanchan21 on August 7, 2018, 1:42pm Never watched the tv show but loved this movie. Cast and acting is good.

Enjoyable submitted by lstorc on August 27, 2018, 5:42pm This was incredibly well done and modern. It also pays tribute to the original series.

Great Star Trek movie! submitted by Xris on August 29, 2018, 7:50am Love the reboot with the new, wonderful actors! And of course the cameo by Nemoy.

A bold new direction in Star Trek submitted by fesmondewhite on June 24, 2019, 3:07pm This movie is a reboot of the original Star Trek series in which original characters are given a major plot twist. The movie starts with a major alteration to the timeline of the original series. The cascading effects of this alteration form the basis of the more action-oriented movie series that followed. The movie is enjoyable, and true to the original series canon. Watch out for those lens-flare special effects, and be sure to watch the extra content that details some of the methods used in making the film.

Good submitted by c_zhang on June 29, 2019, 12:08am A nice storyline and true to the Star Trek universe. It's decent.

Great for rewatching submitted by parlettes on July 18, 2020, 1:42pm A fun take on Star Trek, the movie revisits the Star Trek Enterprise with a new fun spin. It's always fun to watch and makes for great background noise when you're doing something around the house.

JJ Abrams doesn't get Star Trek submitted by tisaallen on June 15, 2022, 6:31pm He made it into a generic action movie.

Not bad submitted by RebeccaWittekindt on June 17, 2023, 9:25am I enjoyed the movie, but didn’t need the sequels. Fun cast, and Eric Bana made a great antagonist.

Great Movie! submitted by MikkiMoscara on July 15, 2023, 7:36pm I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I loved this original series and I thought they did an exceptional job on this movie. Very entertaining and it keeps the viewer interested. Highly recommended.
