Who Watches the Watchmen? I Do! submitted by Dragonessa on September 1, 2009, 9:47am This movie can be summed up in one word: EPIC. Many companies tried and failed over twenty long years to bring Alan Moore's visionary graphic novel to life to no avail. Finally in 2009, Zach Snyder accomplished what many thought was impossible and did it with masterful style! He brought several "unknowns" into the limelight by giving them the roles of everyone's favorite characters from the novel from Jackie Earle Hayley as the uncompromising Rorschach, to Matthew Goode as Nite Owl II, the man who loves and loathes the life he had behind a mask. Every character you know and love makes their mark on the film. Another great by far is Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Eddie Blake aka the Comedian. Also Billy Crudup takes the gargantuan task of playing the fully CGI Doctor Manhattan.

All the actors play their parts to perfection, using dialogue taken straight from the novel. My favorite line? Rorschach's seething words to his fellow inmates: "None of you seem to understand! I'm not locked in here with you! You're locked in here with ME!". And I was certainly locked into the incredible world that is Watchmen. The look of the movie feels like the novel panels come to life before your eyes. The visuals are dead-on stunning, particlarly Dr. Manhattan's fortress on Mars. Yet my favorite piece of work was Rorschach's infamous inkblot mask.

This film is a true work of art and once you see it, you'll know why and perhaps one night you too will ask: "Who Watches the Watchmen?"

Watchmen, watchable but barely submitted by gcn9 on September 8, 2009, 11:39am This is a movie that needed a character for the audience to like and failed. If you're idea of a movie experience is to watch all unlikable characters (some heroes are psychopaths) then this is for you. I didn't even find the motivations believable for two of the main characters (maybe poor acting contributed to this). Yes, it looks good and "tries" to be a different take on super heroes but I found it lacking.

Good submitted by jaegerla on October 3, 2009, 9:33am While it isn't as fantastic as the book, this movie truly brings many of the scenes to life. It would almost fall into the category of present day film noir, however the characters _do_ essentially work to better the conditions of mankind and are not self serving individuals. Whether through brutality or good samaritanism, each hero does have an ultimate goal of improving the lives of those around them. Save for The Comedian.

The film succeeds in two seemingly impossible ways:
1) It improved on the book's original ending. I found the altered plot line more believable and more convincing.
2) It made Laurie Juspeczyk less irritating and more likeable than her graphic novel counterpart.

I would suggest reading the book before seeing the movie, because the book is genius and you will appreciate how true to the scenery the movie manages to be.

watchmen submitted by nasuaada on July 27, 2011, 7:33pm watchmen is awesome! they're about superheroes, and a movie is out about them.

Fantastic Movie submitted by Ilyjtwya on August 3, 2012, 8:28pm There isn't much more I can say about this film. I think it was excellent. Far too often books fail miserably as films, but this one translated wonderfully, with an improved ending. If you like the movie, read the book, and vice versa.

Fantastic! submitted by crazypockets on July 13, 2013, 2:04pm I had no idea what to expect when I went to see this in the theater. I was blown away by every little bit of it. It's not your typical superhero movie at all. It delves into some very deep topics of what we are willing to accept in our society, who the real heroes are, and the true nature of humanity. The cinematography on this is mind-blowing, and the soundtrack was outstanding. I read the graphic novel after seeing it and then went back and rewatched it, and I really enjoyed how it stayed so true to a lot of aspects of the novel. You can actually see certain panels come to life. I would say that this is NOT for children though. It is very very violent, and there is some very strong adult material.

So good, so depressing submitted by ishhewitt on July 10, 2016, 3:05pm Great acting, deep plot. So extremely depressing though.
