Excellent disection of cultural obsession with purity
submitted by MerrieMelodyxx on August 2, 2009, 12:42pm
For a eye-opening trip through purity, hypersexualization, heteronormativity, and traditional patriarchal values, this is a must read. She expertly ties together the damaging effects that these cultural giants have on women and men, and asks us to act against these forces so we all can enjoy our sexuality as something joyful and ours to share with whom we please (as much as we please).
Jessica Valenti has grown as a writer in this book. She still holds to her excellent standards of research, and is a fun and informative read, but there is something here that wasn't present in her previous writings. Highly recommend this book if you want to (or are having sex) and/or you come from a background of sexual repression. Read it with an open mind.
