When Yvan, a quick-tempered 40-year-old vintage car dealer, catches young burglar and ex-junkie Elie trying to rob him, Yvan becomes strangely attached to Elie and agrees to drive him home to his parents in his old Chevrolet, leading to a bizarre journey through Belgium for the two loners.

Son of Stranger than Paradise submitted by nbauer on September 18, 2009, 3:35pm Like Stranger than Paradise, Eldorado is a road trip movie featuring a couple of oddballs travelling a desolate landscape in an old beater. Along the way they meet a nudist who may or may not be a famous actor and a clairvoyant car collector, as well as devise a rather ingenious method to prevent falling asleep while driving. The humor is subtle and never forced as it is in a lot of comedies straining to be quirky. Bouli Lanners is great as the fat and surly Yvan, and Fabrice Adde is the rail-thin, soulful-eyed Laurel to his Hardy. Because the movie's comedy has such a graceful touch, its inherent sadness is that much more effective. It also looks amazing; gorgeous shots with a director who's not afraid of long takes.
