A Most Dramatic Dance

This film reveals the dramatic lives of the famous dance, exotic animal trainers – Cat Dancers. Told through interviews with a world-weary but bare-it-all bravado of a 70-year old Ron Holiday, the surviving member of the group, Cat Dancers achieves a level of intimacy rare for documentaries. Elevating this film to a special, spotlighted stage is the inclusion of material that vividly illustrates the Holiday's story. The skilled camerawork of Amanda Micheli (whose own feature documentary "Double Dare" is highly recommended) brings us inches from the power and beauty of these massive cats, along with Ron Holiday's on camera catharsis. Archival footage, including stunning shots from Ron and Joy's early days as the world's top acrobatic adagio dancers, gives us glimpses into how the relationships of the Holidays (both to their cats and their love lives), evolved in a unexpected and unique ways.
