COMMUNITY REVIEWS

slow submitted by Jackie77 on August 24, 2015, 8:34pm This movie was pretty slow and boring. Not much action. Mostly takes place in a bank.

The Standoff of All Standoffs! submitted by shira.pilarski on July 25, 2020, 12:21am Pacino and Cazale deliver a riveting performance to rival that of Michael and Fredo Corleone. This just might be Cazale's best role -- not that he left us with much else to choose from, unfortunately -- as he plays a quiet, broodingly violent type. The characters are likable and the tension is just right. The conflict between "law" and "justice" -- a favorite of director Sydney Lumet -- boils like the summer Brooklyn afternoon that makes everyone in the film sweat profusely. This sort of tension feels fresh for 2020, although the film's handling of Liz Eden is unfortunately clumsy. Eden was John Wojtowicz's second wife, and a cis-passing transwoman. Instead of casting a woman to play her, they cast Chris Sarandon and repeatedly use what can only be assumed to be a deadname to refer to her. Sarandon's performance is good, sure, but the casting just isn't right for the role.

Great submitted by manz on August 5, 2023, 9:11pm A classic film!

A3 submitted by tarascon on September 27, 2023, 6:48pm “Boring” isn’t exactly the first word I’d employ to describe this movie.
At the time this came out (no pun intended) Pacino was taking a serious career risk; things have changed since then… relatively speaking.
I was 19 when I saw this in the theater and when Sarandon was revealed as Pacino’s partner most of the audience burst out laughing. That was then, this is now and “now” seems more and more like then.

A great film. Watch this with an eye on the news. Compare & discuss. ;p
