Meh submitted by FordAlpha on August 24, 2017, 9:12pm Harmless blah. This book is apparently the sequel to some other book in which the duck joins a menagerie of rescue animals cared for by a person named Irene. I'm not at all inspired to seek out the first book. Here, a fugitive alligator seeks refuge at Irene's house, and the duck nobly convinces the other animals to let the alligator crash at their pad. Ultimately, the alligator is exonerated of eating a girl's pet and returns to the zoo, but not before the dogs and cats have magically overcome their misgivings and spent hours crafting elaborate alligator costumes to fool a detective. The story just doesn't gel; the author gives us no real reason to care about Irene, Max, or any of the other animals. Not worth a second read.
