Interesting for Ann Arborites...
I'm not sure this book would have held my interest without the local ties. It's set in Ann Arbor in a "historic" area and the home's new owners discover that it was the scene of a crime. Last year my husband and I bought a "historic" house in Ann Arbor, and in researching the property, I initially believed a murder had been committed here...fortunately, for us, at least, the connection to our home isn't quite as close as the one in Dream House!
What I enjoyed about this book was the characters. I really did care about them and wanted them to find happiness. The house also has a "personality" in the story and that I appreciated...it's as if the house itself has some control over the characters, holding in some kind of bad karma that they can't quite escape. What I didn't like about this book is just a style preference...it's almost several different stories woven together without quite enough linkage. That's never my favorite style, even when an author does it well.
Overall, a worthwhile read and fun to try to figure out what bits of Ann Arbor are included.
