On Man's View of Writing submitted by Jan Wolter on August 4, 2013, 5:16pm This book is exactly what the author claims it is: a collection of entries from his blog that talk about his personal opinions about writing. They are well written, sensible, and frequently entertaining. Scalzi denounces a variety of well known forms of plain stupidity that some writers get up to, which is fine, but the advice "don't be stupid" is not going to change your life. If you aren't stupid, you don't need it, and if you are, it won't help. Read this if you want to see a little about how one fairly pragmatic writer thought about his career five to ten years ago. But it isn't any kind of "must read" writing book.
