In 1944 the Nazi military and scientific departments are researching the occult. Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin builds a dimensional portal off the coast of Scotland, where he intends to use it to bring about the destruction of Earth. In his employ is the ultra-silent assassin Karl Ruprecht Kroenen, who seemingly can't be killed. However, the United States has sent forces of their own to Scotland, along with Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who is well-versed in terms of magic and sorcery. Fighting breaks out between the Nazi and American soldiers. When the device is damaged, Rasputin's life force is drawn through the portal and he disappears. Bruttenholm saves a mysterious red demon who is given the nickname "Hellboy." Sixty years later, FBI agent John Myers is sent from Quantico to a building in Newark, New Jersey which has been identified as Squeaky Clean Waste Management Services. Hellboy has to defend the city, while trying to protect his friends from each attack. He is eventually pushed over the edge when Rasputin has Kroenen kill Professor Bruttenholm.

All Hell Is About To Break Loose submitted by Dragonessa on March 24, 2009, 12:25pm Hellboy has finally been brought to life on the big screen. Hailing from the deepest pits of Hell, Hellboy is here to take down the nastiest supernatural beasties our world has to offer. He works in tandem with Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien, both are gifted with unique powers. Liz is a pyrokinetic and controls fire while Abe is a half man, half fish hybrid that can breath underwater and see the past or future by feeling objects with his sensitive hands. The movie stays true to the spirit of the graphic novels but has its own flavor. Ron Perlman plays the infamous Hellboy who has all the charm and sarcasm one would expect for a guy who files down his horns to blend in with common society. Kind of hard to do when you have fire engine red skin and a giant stone right hand. But oh well...

The movie is closely based on the first novel in the Hellboy Series: The Right Hand of Doom which details how Hellboy came to earth and how the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense was created. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who loves the graphic novels but wants to see their favorite big red brute in the flesh.
