Based on the story "Sleeping Beauty" by Charles Perrault.
Originally produced as a motion picture in 1959.
Mary Costa, Bill Shirley, Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton, Barbara Luddy, Barbara Jo Allen, Taylor Holmes, Bill Thompson.
Princess Aurora is born to King Stefan & his wife. At a ceremony for her, fairies - Flora, Fauna and Merryweather - bestow gifts of magic on the child. But the evil sorceress, Maleficent, shows up and places a curse on the princess - where Aurora will die on her 16th birthday after touching a poisoned spinning wheel. Merryweather tries to undo the damage by casting a spell that will allow princess Aurora to awake from an ageless sleep with a kiss from her true love. The fairies take Aurora to their cottage and raise her as their own child. On her 16th birthday, Aurora meets Prince Phillip and the two fall in love. Maleficent kidnaps the Prince and she tricks Aurora into touching a spinning wheel. Realizing that the Prince is in trouble, the good fairies head to Maleficent's castle and spring the Prince loose. But the Prince soon finds himself up against Maleficent when she turns herself into a fire-breathing dragon. Now the Prince has to be strong enough to withstand the powers of the evil Maleficent.
DVD, region 1, widescreen (2.55:1) presentation; Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.
Contents: Belle au bois dormant.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Good movie for older kids submitted by katiemark on June 21, 2011, 8:29am I like this movie because it's exciting. However, I did not like the mean parts. I have watched this movie twice, and I would like to watch it again. It's probably too scary for little toddlers, but older kids might like it.

Agreed submitted by nfrassrand on June 23, 2011, 3:59pm I agree

Fun! submitted by adilaura on July 1, 2011, 7:20pm Great movie, but due to certain scary bits, probably better for slightly older kids.

better then cinderella submitted by honordenver on July 16, 2011, 2:23pm Good movie I like it a lot better then cinderella.

Alright submitted by cinderellariley on July 17, 2011, 2:55pm Not as good as Cinderella.

I thought this was my favorite Disney movie, but then I watched it again... submitted by Sara W on August 10, 2011, 9:05pm And it's boring! And ridiculous! My memories of Sleeping Beauty are great - a loving king and queen giving their only child a chance to live by sending her with the fairies, the hilarious/silly/sweet fairies, Briar Rose singing in the woods, the handsome prince. But all put together, this movie just isn't great. The songs are so-so at best, with the duet between the two kings getting drunk and toasting to the future being the worst.

My memories of the fairies sneaking magic to make Briar Rose her birthday cake and dress, and then fighting over the color of the dress (make it blue!) stood stronger than the memory of her only being a real "sleeping" beauty for about 15 minutes. It's not put together well and the story just doesn't work, no matter how much I like Flora, Fauna and Merriwether.

Good submitted by derin on August 18, 2011, 6:41pm not great and not wonderful

great movie submitted by jszchen on August 23, 2011, 11:32pm the witch was a little scary, but great fairytale

A Masterpiece submitted by chuntoon on June 23, 2012, 10:52pm This movie is truly a work of art... incredible music, beautiful animation, and a clear story. Elements may be scary to younger children.

Awesome! submitted by kittenkat101 on July 3, 2012, 7:10pm This movie is beautiful. It has been my favorite disney movie ever since I was a child, though as others have pointed out, it can be a bit frightening for young children.

Pretty Good submitted by miriam gandham on July 19, 2012, 1:59pm This movie was fun and exciting

Sleeping Beauty submitted by SBNB on August 5, 2012, 10:55am It's not my favorite Disney movie, but it's certainly good. Kids will probably enjoy it.

A classic submitted by smariej on August 7, 2012, 10:59pm One of Disney's most innovative and intricately hand-drawn films, with one of the most classic Grimm's tales

NAG submitted by torres4 on August 11, 2012, 1:51pm Not as good as i remembered it, but still cute

Favorite Disney Movie! submitted by meghantpowell on July 3, 2019, 12:22am Hands down my favorite Disney movie! The fairies are hilarious, especially when they're preparing for Aurora's birthday and also when they're fighting over the color of her gown in the last ballroom scene. Prince charming is also pretty charming. Great songs too!

Classic submitted by TLW1998 on June 24, 2022, 12:06am Great, classic Disney Princess movie
