Honestly, You Should Know Exactly What You're Signing Up for Here submitted by Meginator on June 16, 2023, 11:18pm This (surprisingly long) album features Alvin, Simon, Theodore, and their ever-harried manager Dave Seville singing classic Christmas songs and carols, including their own inescapable contribution to the holiday canon. Dave makes a few appearances here and there, but the focus is on the Chipmunks and their signature squeaky vocals; this is charming (especially when paired with humorous spoken asides) and certainly unique, but it can be a little overwhelming after 20 tracks in a row. The song selection is solid, including many of the major Santa-adjacent classics and one surprise in the form of “Over the River and Through the Woods”; overall, the album steers away from the heavily religious content and toward songs that celebrate gift-giving and family gatherings. The high-pitched vocals might be a bit much for most (adult) listeners to go through in one uninterrupted session, but they are joyful and spirited and do make the typical songs of the season sound just a bit different than they usually do.
