The pout-pout fish believes he only knows how to frown, even though many of his friends suggest ways to change his expression, until one day a fish comes along that shows him otherwise.

Family loves it submitted by Micaela on August 21, 2011, 11:58pm Cutest book ever! And the illustration on the back sums it up when you turn the book upside down. It has a beautiful message for kids and adults alike. Even the "sequel" book we love as much. Great author =)

Be Happy submitted by jennifer-ricks on June 20, 2013, 5:04pm A cute little book about a fish that just can't seem to be happy.

Great rhyming book submitted by whitneywk on August 31, 2015, 5:01am This book is one I love reading to my daughter. The rhythm of the rhymes makes it move along in a fun and almost musical way. Great writing by Deborah Dieson, who uses words not typically found in many children's books (agast, squelchy) and who uses funny descriptors for the characters that make this a fun read for parents too ("she was slightly impolite). I highly recommend this book!

the Pout-Pout Fish submitted by avrogers1 on August 16, 2017, 9:13pm This is a cute story. It has great pictures and it rhymes really well. I like the flow of the words and I think it would be a great read when doing speech training or warming up the voice.

Love this submitted by irksit on June 27, 2018, 1:50pm Best kids book I’ve read in a while!

The Pout-Pout Fish submitted by SBNB on June 12, 2020, 9:13pm This is a fun book to read out loud. My kids requested it quite a few times. It's especially fun to have it read to you on Epic (book website that my daughter's 1st grade class was using at the end of this school year).

Silly and fun submitted by JennJenn on July 31, 2020, 7:26pm This book is great for cheering you up. I love the story but my preschoolers and I joke when reading it that there is no kissing at school!!

Sea lifes submitted by ooyzzam on June 13, 2021, 11:33pm I am happy to see the pout-pout fish found happiness in the last

Almost fantastic submitted by nemiller on August 13, 2021, 10:28am On the one hand, I loved reading this out loud. The rolling rhythm and rhyme, not to mention the "BLUB. BLUUUB. BLUUUUUUUUB." pages with these hilarious illustrations of the mopiest fish to ever mope.

And I like the way it give you a chance to talk with kids about depression, defeatism, and being a good friend, in a way that very young kids can understand.

I just hate that the solution was a pretty girl.

Favorite Book to Read Aloud submitted by robinpollak on August 4, 2022, 7:54pm I LOVE reading this book out loud. The rhymes and characters are so fun. We can probably all imagine the person in our lives who needs to get the cheer-up message of this book.

Funny and cute rhymes submitted by emaelshaikh on August 20, 2022, 7:41pm Makes baby laugh

Repeat Fun! submitted by msi61 on June 11, 2023, 11:11pm It’s great that there is repeating pages so that young kids know what to expect.
