Led by Captain Jack Harkness, the Torchwood team delves into the unknown and fights the impossible. From an underground base built on a rift in time and space, the team responds to any alien threat-- a meteorite crash landing, sightings of extra-terrestrial technology, an unusual autopsy report, the spread of a deadly alien virus. Everyone who works for Torchwood is under 35. Some day that's because it's a new science-- others say it's because they die young.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

LGBT Sci Fi submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 27, 2013, 12:08am A spin-off from the BBC series "Doctor Who," "Torchwood" is about an institution created by Queen Victoria to be "outside the government, beyond the police" in order to protect the world and Britain in particular from alien invasion. Capt. Jack Harkness, formerly of "Doctor Who" runs a team of paranormal investigators in Cardiff.
Most of the characters are bisexual, although Harkness (played by the openly gay John Barrowman) is decidedly omnisexual and flirts with everyone. "Torchwood" is very graphic in every sense of the word, and so is not appropriate for anyone under 18. Sci fi fans will love the show.
The episode "Combat" is particularly disturbing as it demonstrates how cruel people can be towards other humans and humanoids. It also shows us how far Owen has sunk, possibly as a result of ending two major relationships.
