Built around the idea of a variety show, it delivered variety in every possible way: puppets and humans, puns and slapstick, guest stars whom only the adult viewers would know but whose scenes still entertained the kids. Music, skits, and the craziness going on backstage in the Muppet Theater - an innovative show that holds up.

Watching it as a kid I didn't know who they were, but I'm impressed now, both by the guest stars willingness to participate in this madness and whoever got them on the show in the first place. Madeline Kahn and Steve Martin are two of the best, and my favorites of this batch of episodes.
