Fascinating Artist, Fascinating Book
submitted by jibkidder on June 16, 2022, 7:27am
There are a few other children's picture book writers that I also like, but William Stieg and Tomi Ungerer
stick out as the true artists of the genre. Their idiosyncratic drawing style, feel for words and willingness to not underestimate children and let the darkness in elevate the form. It's fascinating to see his children's material alongside his New Yorker work and to gain the insights of his bio. Highly recommended.
