A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatization starring Clive Francis and Bill Wallis.
Mr. Samuel Pickwick, retired business man and confirmed bachelor, is determined that after a quite life of enterprise the time has come to go out into the world. Together with the other members of the Pickwick Club: Tracy Tupman, Augustus Snodgrass and Nathaniel Winkle, the portly innocent embarks on a series of hilariously comic adventures. But can Pickwick retain his good will towards his fellow humans once he discovers the evils of the world?

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

abridged submitted by camelsamba on August 5, 2015, 11:24am This BBC Presents audiobook is not a reading of the book, but a dramatization and abridgement. I actually read the book decades ago, as a high school student, but I didn't remember much except that it was funny. And long. (I went through a Dickens phase in high school. I probably thought it made me smarty-pants intellectual, because my sister was reading them at college.) The audiobook is not overly long - just 3 discs, just under 3 hours. Different actors do different characters and I did confuse them at times, but I was listening to this while doing other tasks so not fully attentive. If you want a good introduction to the book, or a reminder of some high points (as selected by BBC producers), you won't go wrong with this production.
