The split between Harvey Dent, Commissioner Gordon, and Batman was portrayed eloquently. I also love how believable the adoption of Robin was played out. I wouldn't be surprised if the next Batman movie borrows heavily from this plotline.
My only complaint is how remarkably similar this was to the author's previous Batman graphic novel The Long Halloween. Both are really good, but so alike that for a minute there I thought I was accidentally rereading The Long Halloween.
Even with that said, I'd still recommend people reading both Dark Victory and The Long Halloween.
Just stick to the Long Halloween submitted by valjean on August 30, 2018, 6:30am This book, while technically a sequel to The Long Halloween, is not so tied into you have read it. You just need to know going in that this a relatively newbie Batman who just wrapped up a big case that may not actually be wrapped up after all. However, this book lacks the magic that made Long Halloween so spectacular, mostly dealing with mob family drama with shoehorned-in supervillains. If you really loved the Long Halloween, pick this up, otherwise it might be worth passing over. It is still worth reading, in my personal opinion.
