Outstanding submitted by KidBlue on December 14, 2017, 2:02pm This is a spectacular album of traditional music from the nations of the Himalayas. The vocals and instruments will sound odd to Western ears, but those with open minds and hearts will find great mystical beauty here.

Lots of Influences submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 9:52pm As the liner notes for this compilation point out, the vast Himalayan region draws cultural influences from several different places, resulting in a richly varied musical heritage that is on full display here. These musicians use many different instruments and vocal techniques, giving each track its own unique feeling and preventing the album from becoming at all repetitive. Some of the musical elements (such as different scales and the use of throat singing) may be unfamiliar to listeners more accustomed to Western traditions, but they are all the more interesting for the ways in which they challenge common assumptions about what music should sound like and approach the art from different angles. I really enjoyed learning more about the region’s musical heritage through this album and recommend this to anyone looking to broaden their horizons and learn more about a part of the world that is often ignored aside from its highest peaks.
