Henri O, our favorite retired newsreporter, is finally back solving crime!
submitted by mynning on October 15, 2007, 9:38pm
This is the 7th installment of Carolyn Hart's mystery series starring retired journalist Henrie O and it is an enjoyable rainy day quick read.
The mystery takes place on a two-week Baltic cruise where Henri O has joined James Lennox (an old flame of hers from many, many years ago) and his wife (Sophia, a documentary filmmaker) at the insistence of James who is concerned his wife is in mortal danger and wants Henri O to help him protect and watch over Sophia. Who would want to kill his wife? Well, she has some step-children who are lusting for their inheirantce money for starters . . . and they just happen to also be on the cruise.
The plot is pretty predicatable if you are a true mystery fan, but the characters are well-rounded, the attention to detail (i.e. the stops at the various Scandanavian ports) is spot on; and just the fact that I could read a mystery where the heroine is not in her 20's or 30's, with a strong libido, and a penchant for accidentally falling over dead bodies - and solving the crimes aiding by ditzy friends BUT an intelligent, older woman who uses her years of experience, accumulated wisdom, guts, and analytical mind to solve murders is a welcome change to say the least.
