Good reading submitted by audreyh on June 13, 2015, 1:40pm Though I wasn't a huge fan of the storytelling device (a journal) Pierce used to tell this story, I eventually was able to look past it and enjoy the story. I liked the mix of mystery in this story.

well connected submitted by ptoschlog on July 6, 2017, 1:45pm I liked the way Pierce tied this in to the Alanna series

Great intro to a new heroine submitted by Princess Cimorene on July 24, 2020, 4:28pm As usual, Tamora Pierce brings a strong female lead to life and throws readers right into her story. I thought this was a strong start to a new trilogy, and liked the perspective of kind of a more "normal" commoner working hard to be who she wants to be, rather than someone exceptional by birth or divine intervention (although I do love Alanna and Daine as well).

Murder Mystery Feel submitted by MollyWiding on July 31, 2020, 4:00pm I like how this series is more of a mystery novel than a fantasy adventure, it's very different from Tamora's other books.
