Creative Expression submitted by calinescus on June 17, 2016, 9:23am It starts off kind of scary, with regards to Dizzy's violent childhood. It then gets more and more upbeat as Dizzy grows up and it praises Dizzy for his silliness and ingenuity. The author obviously has passion for the material (Jazz, Dizzy's life) and the illustrations are in a somewhat sketchy, funky sort of pastel style. It might be a great primer to get a kid interested or at least introduced to jazz music, biographies, and African American history.
For upper elementary and up submitted by Pooh3238 on June 26, 2018, 10:36am This book talks about Dizzy Gillespie's life and how he became interested in jazz. Part of it may not be for younger kids, but a good introduction to jazz and Dizzy Gillespie.
