Quite sophisticated for lions submitted by Pumpkinscones on June 25, 2013, 5:27pm This tells the story of a pride of lions released from their zoo in the middle of Baghdad bombings of 2003. It tries hard to tell a story of Freedom, examining cage metaphors to great length and it is very pretty. However the lions are just too intelligent and sophisticated to really get into this piece. There's an occasional scene where they revert to a 'wild nature' but the rest of the time it comes across as an undergraduates' discussion of a war which happens to be spoken by a lion. Lots of great iconography but I think it may have worked better without any dialogue at all and been just the journey of these creatures through the war-torn city. And I usually like Vaughan but this not so much.

Not the best for Vaughan submitted by EJZ on July 21, 2018, 9:43am Having read most of Vaughan's work previously, well, this doesn't hold up. 2/5 stars. The exposition style is tedious and felt contrived.

Emotionally taut submitted by mowjac on August 18, 2018, 12:19pm I didn't expect to be as moved by this as I was. While it isn't polished as a story, it also carries a strong emotional current.
