COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Rudolph Valentino submitted by willow on August 31, 2015, 12:56pm The Sheik is a silent movie based on a romance novel, with a very convoluted plot involving a headstrong white woman named Diana (played by Agnes Ayres), living in Biskra, Algeria, who dresses as an Arab in order to see what's going on inside of a casino: the prize is new wives. She initially is chosen but, on revealing herself, she is excused. There is a long series of events involving the Sheik and near ravishings of the lovely Diana (rape not being acceptable for inclusion in a film, whereas in the book, she is clearly raped by him); At the end, it is revealed that the Sheik (played by Italian-born American actor Rudolph Valentino) is in fact white after all -- and that explains his large hands! Indeed. (Yes, that explains everything.)

In The Son of the Sheik, Valentino plays both the Sheik and his son! It was released just after his death at the age of 31, and includes cast members Vilma Banky as Yasmin, and Bull Montana as Ali the Mountebank.
