The real book is better

Read the actual book, not the Cliff Notes!
I highly recommend that everyone read "The Color Purple." Alice Walker won the 1983 Pulitzer and National Book Award for Fiction for this novel.
The book does deal with incest and rape as the main character survives both. It also deals with spousal abuse and adultery. As these are real problems in our society and as many teens really do survive physical and sexual abuse I think it is well worth a read, even though readers will (rightfully) find the material disturbing.
